The Gifford Pinchot National Forest will soon be filling a Support Services Specialist, GS-342-6/7 career ladder, located on the Mt. Adams Ranger District, with a duty station in Trout Lake, WA.
About the Position
The incumbent provides administrative and clerical support for a variety of functions on the District, with an emphasis on support services to a large resource staff, directing office services, oversight of administrative practices and procedures, and budget formulation and tracking. Incumbent provides supervision and oversight to subordinate employees. Duties include maintaining hardcopy and electronic files, correspondence, and administering permits and contracts. Plans and coordinates a variety of office support work such as procurement, property, stocking of office supplies, personnel support, and maintaining office equipment. Keeps current on new policies and provides information on procedural practices to staff.

· Supervision experience.

Community and Locale
The Mt. Adams District Office is located in Trout Lake, Washington, along Highway 141, an important recreation and access route through Washington’s central Cascade Mountains. Trout Lake is a small community with a rural atmosphere that reflects the tremendous outdoor opportunities in the area. Klickitat County is a rural setting, with a population of 18,000.
Many employees live in nearby towns, including White Salmon, Carson, and Stevenson, WA, as well as Hood River, Oregon. The cost of living is high with average home prices between $250,000 to $300,000. The Trout Lake community, including outlying areas, has a population of approximately 400. This is a setting that appeals to candidates who are seeking the lifestyle provided by a small rural community. The town has a grocery and video store, one gas station, one motel, and a range of other local accommodations including bed and breakfasts and rustic cabins, two restaurants, three churches; one recreation trailer court, one County recreation park. The Trout Lake School District provides a full range of education for about 150 students ranging from K-12 right in Trout Lake. Trout Lake High School offers learning center facilities with access to college classes. A community hospital is located in White Salmon, where you can also find the banks and a variety of services such as drivers licensing, the public utility district, and others.
