Dr. Ted DeWitt of the Pacific Coastal Ecology Branch (PCEB), Western Ecology Division (WED), National Health and Environmental Effects Laboratory (NHEERL), Office of
Research and Development (ORD) at the U S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking individuals, at least 18 years of age, who have completed a Bachelors degree in
ecology, marine science, environmental science, chemistry, zoology, botany, environmental chemistry, oceanography or a related field of study to provide services under a
contractual agreement in the support of research pertaining to the measurement of nitrogen removal as an ecosystem service of estuarine wetland habitats as part of the
Sustainable and Healthy Communities Research Program (SHCRP).
The student contractor must have received their Bachelors within 24 months or be a current student in good academic standing with their university or college.
This contract is projected to begin approximately August 2012. The initial contract will be for 12 months, not-to-exceed (NTE) 1928 hours, with an option to extend the
contract for two 12-month option periods, NTE 1928 hours each option period. It is anticipated the student contractor will work up to 40 hours per week. The majority of
the work will be Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The duty location is the Western Ecology Division, Newport, OR.

Natural Resource Specialist 3 (Lead Scientist) Charleston, Oregon
Scientific research
· Develop scientific research proposals
· Solicit funding, partners and support
· Lead and carry out studies
·Facilitate scientific studies by visiting investigators
Supervising scientific activities in progress
·Coordinate and guide staff and visiting investigators
· Design protocols, study sites and sampling parameters
Program development
·Develop, implement and revise the management plan guiding scientific programs

Working Conditions
Much of the work is in an office setting; but fieldwork along waterways or on rough terrain is expected and may be required to complete assigned work. Travel is an essential function of the position. Overnight stays and/or extended work hours can be expected along with exposure to inclement weather and road conditions. Work hours during field work can be irregular and sometimes long. Visits to on-site locations may be by vehicle, watercraft or on foot. Site visits may involve walking over uneven terrain or in wet muddy ground without pathways in all types of weather. This position is also exposed to heavy machinery activity, laboratory equipment and chemical materials.

The Senior Research Program Manager (Oceans) will have a strategic role in the development of a new philanthropic initiative that will advance the health of the oceans. apply basic theories, tools, and methods to well-defined assignments
of limited scope.

to the production of technical documents. This may include
coordinating schedules and producing outcomes of specific tasks of a
