I am seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. student for a graduate assistantship in Biological Oceanography at the University of Washington (UW) to develop a research program within the framework of understanding the effects of ocean acidification on crustacean zooplankton and ecosystem dynamics. The position will begin in Summer (preferably) or Fall 2012. The successful candidate will develop interdisciplinary research (across biological, chemical, and physical oceanography) focused on biology, do field and laboratory work, and collaborate closely with a team of researchers at the UW (Oceanography and Fisheries departments) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The successful candidate will be encouraged to present their research at international conferences and prepare their work for publication in highly-ranked peer-reviewed journals.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
Delivers the South Sound GREEN watershed education program to the community, including teachers, administrators, students, and parents.
Program Coordination
Develops, plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the following program activities:
- A water quality training for teachers
- Two teacher networking meetings
- Two water quality monitoring events
- The annual Student GREEN Congress
- Nearshore education field trips
- A Summer Teacher Institute
- Student watershed action projects
Community Partnerships
Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with schools, agencies, community organizations, and businesses. Most major events, such as the Student GREEN Congress, are produced in partnership with the Nisqually River Education Project and multiple community partners. This is a very important aspect of the work in coordinating South Sound GREEN.
Program Outreach
Develops and presents marketing materials and information, including overseeing outreach work by the AmeriCorps member for the web page, social media, and publications; provides audio-visual presentations for a variety of audiences.
Administrative Functions
Identifies and secures program funding; develops and monitors the annual budget; monitors and administers all grants.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Effective communicator, both oral and written

- Ability to align programs with the financial realities of an annual budget

Benefits: Retirement (PERS), paid holidays, vacation and sick leave are pro-rated for .5 employees. In addition, 50% of the costs of medical benefits for the employee are paid by Thurston Conservation District for a .5 employee. The employee is required to pay the other 50%. The employee medical benefits are paid in full by the employer once this employee transitions to full time.

Fisheries Biologist – ICF International (Seattle, WA)
Job Description:
The Fisheries Biologist will support work in the Puget Sound and areas east of the Cascades in Washington; and potentially Oregon, California and Alaska. This position is expected to provide expertise on salmonid and other Pacific Northwest listed fish species and in-depth knowledge of local ecology and processes. The candidate will be expected to prepare biological assessments meeting Washington and potentially Oregon standards, manage workload and to contribute to aquatic sections of NEPA or state SEPA or CEQA documents.
Marine Fisheries Biologist
Job Description :
B.S. in Biology/Chemistry/Fisheries
Conduct fisheries and aquatic habitat related studies and planning for near-shore marine and river environments to permit projects, develop management plans, and define restoration actions. Manage and conduct fisheries projects. Assist in marketing fisheries and related environmental work.
Job Requirements :
At least 8 years’ experience in Puget Sound near-shore and riverine fisheries studies, planning projects, watershed management, habitat restoration, fish passage and habitat design. The person who qualifies for this position has the ability to effectively coordinate all aspects of fisheries projects and permit projects through local, state and federal agencies, including USACE and NMFS. Responsibilities will to include technical and management tasks. Has demonstrated ability to understand and consistently apply fundamentals of ecological sciences as well as project management.
B.S. in Biology/Chemistry/Fisheries
M.S. or PhD. in Fisheries Biology
Prefer CFS registration
