Reclamation Field Lead- Olympia, WA

The Reclamation Field Lead is a reclamation expert with in-depth knowledge of the Surface Mine Reclamation Act (RCW 78.44) and associated rule (WAC 332-18).     Volunteer/Intern, Wild Fish Conservancy (Grays Harbor, WA)

    The Wild Fish Conservancy is seeking volunteers to assist in an assessment of habitat use by the fish community (particularly juvenile salmon) in the tidally-influenced areas of the Chehalis River estuary (Grays Harbor) and tributaries. The sampling effort will use fyke trapping and beach seining to capture, identify, measure, and release juvenile fish from March to September, 2012. Habitat assessments will also be made to identify areas for future habitat restoration projects to aid in salmon recovery in the Chehalis Basin. Volunteers need to be in good physical condition (adequate for hauling seine nets and traveling across mud flats), be comfortable working from small boats, and be willing to work in adverse weather conditions. The effort will provide experience in field techniques, fish identification, data collection and habitat assessment. Free group lodging will be provided in Westport, but at present there is no funding for salaries or stipends. Volunteers do not need to commit to the entire study period, but during summer, preference will be given to those who can commit for longer time periods (weeks/months).

    Summary description of the position
    The Executive Secretary is the Commission’s senior employee and shall be impartial in coordinating interests of the two national sections. The Executive Secretary is responsible to the Commission for the management of its office and its funds, which are currently at the level of $3.8 M per annum, contributed in equal parts by the two Contracting Parties.     Each year, Environment America hires passionate, talented and committed college graduates to join their two-year Fellowship Program. If hired, fellows will learn to plan and run strategic state and national campaigns. Fellows will learn how to identify effective solutions to critical environmental problems and organize public support for their campaigns. Fellows will organize town hall meetings and rallies; get their message out by writing opinion pieces and getting them printed in major newspapers and on key websites; set up and speak at news conferences; lobby lawmakers; and run citizen outreach campaigns to educate the public, build membership and raise money for their work.     Seasonal Research Assistant, Intertidal Marine Ecology – Oregon State University (Corvallis, OR)

    This is a fulltime seasonal position lasting for six months beginning in April 5, 2012 through October 2012. Oregon State University is looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated, hardworking individuals to assist in rocky intertidal research on the Oregon Coast. The lab work will include counting samples at a stereo microscope. The field work activities will involve hiking to field sites, climbing on coastal cliffs with fairly heavy equipment and working on rocky exposed shores in the surf.     Interns/Volunteers – Wild Fish Conservancy (Duvall, WA)

    The Wild Fish Conservancy is seeking interns/volunteers for an assessment of habitat use by the juvenile salmon in the tidally-influenced areas of the Chehalis River estuary. The project, now in it’s second year, will use beach seining and fyke trapping to capture, identify, measure, and release juvenile fish from March to September, 2012. Habitat assessments will also be made to identify areas for future habitat restoration projects to aid in salmon recovery in the Chehalis Basin.
