This position is offered through a partnership with AmeriCorps to begin October 1, 2011. Position Title: Stewardship Coordinator Sponsoring Organization: Capitol Land Trust www.capitollandtrust.org Sponsoring Organization’s Mission: Furthering collaborative and strategic conservation of southwest Washington’s essential natural areas and working lands. Location: 209 4th Avenue East, Suite 205, Olympia, WA, 98501 with travel throughout Thurston, Mason, and Grays Harbor Counties. General Responsibilities: Currently our organization has five staff members and a thriving, active board. The AmeriCorps member will work with CLT staff and board in land stewardship; volunteer coordination and training; and office and outreach activities.
The Stewardship Coordinator will work with Capitol Land Trust staff and board members to:
Qualifications
Completion of at least some college-level work
Must have a valid driver’s license
Drive a personal vehicle (CLT will provide mileage reimbursement) for field work
Physically able to conduct outdoor field work and traverse through rough and steep terrain
Attend trainings and meetings out of town, and work occasional weekends and evenings
Communicate in a positive, professional manner and work well in a team environment
Ability to work independently
Good computer skills; good speaking, presentation, and writing skills
Outgoing and friendly personality with ability to meet and work with new people easily
Good organizing and coordinating skills
Ability to commit to the full term of service
Desire to serve with people to promote environmental stewardship
Submit to a criminal background check
Regular and reliable attendance
Monitor conserved lands
Maintain reliable stewardship records
Solicit and train stewardship volunteers
Create property baseline reports
Create maps using GPS and GIS software
Coordinate and organize stewardship and restoration activities
Conduct outreach and educational events
Capitol Land Trust staff work frequently with many community groups and government agencies. The Stewardship Coordinator is expected to work with others in a professional manner, sharing ideas about conservation and assisting with committees related to outreach and land conservation.: Preferred Qualifications
Training or demonstrable background in natural sciences, natural resource management, environmental studies, land-use planning, or related fields
Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, GIS software, and GPS equipment
Experience with restoration : AmeriCorps Requirements/Responsibilities
10 1/2-month term of service, starting October 1, 2011
Member must serve a MINIMUM of 1,700 hours during the 10 ½ month term of service
Complete and submit all necessary AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner
Attend all AmeriCorps training and orientation events
Has to be 18-25 years of age at start of service term
Must have high school diploma, GED or commit to obtaining one during the term of service
U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident
Member may have part-time job or attend school provided it doesn’t interfere with schedule set at site : AmeriCorps Member benefits include
A taxable, monthly living allowance of $1,150.
Upon successful completion of a full term of service, eligible members receive an educational award of $5,550.
