Program description: The Association in partnership with the Gulf of the Farallones, Monterey Bay, and Channel Islands national marine sanctuaries conducts LiMPETS, Long-term Monitoring Program and Experiential Training for Students. LiMPETS is an environmental monitoring and education program for students, educators, and volunteer groups. This program was developed to monitor the ocean and coastal ecosystems of California’s national marine sanctuaries to increase awareness and stewardship of these important areas. Locally, the LiMPETS program serves middle, high schools and colleges in the San Francisco Bay area. Monitoring activities take place on beaches and rocky intertidal areas in and around the Gulf of the Farallones and northern Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuaries.
