In this role, the position will provide subject matter expertise in the areas of physical and/or life sciences and technology and will actively engage in both internal and external communication and representation of science initiatives and findings.
This position will provide support to the Shell Alaska Venture (AV) in XC/UA in the areas of physical and life sciences in the Arctic. It is expected that the incumbent will support the Venture Science Lead in the day to day management of program activities, will represent the Science lead with internal and external issue management, and will develop and implement independent programs of investigation and advisory.
The Alaska Venture operates in areas of Arctic marine and onshore conditions that are characterized by unique Arctic ecosystems and species, subsistence cultures, and challenges to design and operation of infrastructure. The Venture science program is tasked with support of Venture plans and aspirations at all levels. Demonstrating and communicating an understanding of existing baseline environmental conditions is a critical aspect of achieving license to operate. Supporting the design of environmentally protective measures and operational standards is also a long-term requirement.
Expertise in Arctic biology/ecology is desirable, but not absolutely necessary contingent upon other areas of relevant scientific expertise and experience.
Capacity to provide first level support and decision-making for the science program is desirable. The incumbent will be expected to carry out independent portions of the overall science program, which spans the physical and life sciences of Northern Alaska at all levels of operation, from establishment and management of budgets, contracting, scheduling, and delivery.
