Job Summary:
The Food and Community Safety Program in the Environmental Health Division is recruiting a Regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Environmental Health Specialist I (EHS I) in Community Safety Programs with primary emphasis in the Schools Safety & Health Program and secondary duties in the Water Recreation and Food Safety programs.  We seek an environmental health professional with interest and enthusiasm in these highly varied and still developing programs. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills both spoken and written. The successful candidate should have a high level of comfort with ambiguity and be able to present a well reasoned position based on accepted standards, logic and public health principals to a wide range of audiences with varying backgrounds in health and safety issues. In addition, the successful candidate should have a high level of comfort in working collaboratively with other health department disciplines in helping to forward department priorities as stated in the Department’s Strategic Plan. This position works with all aspects of student safety and health including plan review, water, solid waste, chemical hazards, physical hazards, air quality, asthma and allergy, playground safety, communicable disease, and architectural hazards, and a host of other issues. This position works in partnership with our 15 school districts and 250+ public and private school facilities.
