Research Associate- Center for Urban Waters, UW Tacoma

The Puget Sound Institute (PSI), a program at the Center for Urban Waters at the University of Washington Tacoma, is searching for full-time, post-doctoral research associate with broad expertise in decision analysis or other relevant structured decision-making approaches to develop and demonstrate tools and approaches for supporting decision makers in a large-scale, coordinated effort to restore and protect the Puget Sound ecosystem. The individual would have the opportunity to advance the development of innovative tools at PSI and apply them to the work of the Puget Sound Partnership.  The Partnership is a 5-year old agency in Washington State that leads a multi-partner effort involving state and federal agencies, Indian Tribes, local governments, and non-governmental organizations to develop a comprehensive ecosystem recovery strategy and to evaluate its success.
Possibilities include a regional, multi-scale risk assessment of stressors on the Puget Sound ecosystem, multiple criteria decision making to prioritize recovery actions, modeling environmental social marketing strategies, use of expert elicitation in natural resource management, and others.  The individual would have the opportunity to interact with faculty and researchers at the University of Washington, federal research laboratories, state and federal agencies and other scientists; and with key decision-makers and stakeholders.  This position begins May 1, 2012 and ends June 30, 2013.
