Education Specialist at OCA
The Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, OR, is currently seeking an Education Specialist. The primary responsibility for this position is to act as one of the frontline educators for the Aquarium developing and implementing K-12th grade school group programs, preschool programs and managing the educational kit program. The person in this position is responsible for regularly updating Aquarium academic programs to include pedagogical best practices, up to date content, conservation messages
and technology. This position also supports the development and implementation of other educational programs including state-wide outreach (which includes over-night travel), homeschool, summer camp,
volunteer training and onsite public presentations for the Aquarium’s visitors. This person will also assist in caring for the education collection’s live animals and maintaining the cold water systems in the classroom.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication, as well as organizational skills, are required. A bachelor’s degree in education, natural science, or a closely related field is required. At least two
years experience implementing environmental educational programs required. Ability to speak Spanish preferred, but not required. Must be able to work weekends, nights, and/or holidays. The ability to gain and hold an Oregon driver’s license is required. Deadline to submit for this position is October 3, 2011.
