The Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group is seeking interns to assit with salmon spawner surveys from October 2011 through January 2012. This is a volunteer position, but mileage to and from the work sites in Mount Vernon will be reimbursed. Hours/work days are flexible, but the intern is expected to commit to montoring at least 2 sites (6-8 hours per week minimum). The spawner survey intern assists SFEG staff in implementing the spawner survey program program for selected restoration sites. The intern will participate in SFEG spawner survey workshop, receive training in how to identify adult salmon species and redds, conduct weekly surveys on one or more streams, and assist with data entry, analysis, and reporting. This program documents salmon spawning in proposed and completed restoration sites. This information is useful in understanding the effectiveness of restoration efforts and is used by WDFW for escapement forecasting. The intern works with SFEG field staff and other volunteers to carry out this work.
