Internship opportunity with Tacoma elementary school

Lowell Elementary School in the North End of Tacoma have had a"Green Team" for the last three years. The Green Team includes parents, students and teachers who work together to organize environmentally focused events and to raise the awareness of environmental issues at the school. This year the Green Team are looking for a student intern to work with the Green Team. The intern will have specific responsibilities for:

1) Organizing and leading the Junior Green Team meetings for fourth and fifth graders. These meetings are held twice a month from 12:40-1:30. This year the focus will be on native plants as the school has funds to plant a native plant garden.

2) Planning and participating in the development of the school's new native plant garden.

3) Contributing to the organization and running of other Green Team events.

4) Attending and contribute to monthly parent and Teacher Green Team meetings.

5) Researching grant opportunities with the intention to write and submit a proposal to fund future Green Team activities.

6) Promoting meetings and activities in a variety of ways:  school newsletter, Facebook, e-mail, or the school website

This is a wonderful opportunity to work on a capstone internship that provides hands-on experience in environmental education and outreach. The commitment is for at least two quarters (preferably three), with each quarter equivalent two credits. If you are interested please contact Sian Davies-Vollum (ksdavies@u.washington.edu) for more details.
