Research Consultant – School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, UW (Seattle, WA)

Research is directed toward two main areas:  1) Characterizing the genetic basis of phenotypic diversity and genetic relatedness of aquatic organisms, primarily fish; 2) Understanding how nutritional environmental factors such as pH, water temperature, contaminants, food quality and quantity or other ecosystem variables alter the physiology and health of aquatic organisms by examining large scale changes in gene expression. The main duties of this position are to develop and apply computational tools or approaches to acquire, organize, store, analyze and visualize genomic and transcriptomic data from research in these two areas and to maintain Linux and Apple based-computer clusters. The incumbent assists scientists and students from different disciplines (genetics, physiology, toxicology and microbiology) with bioinformatics of fish, shellfish and microbial genomic and transcriptomic data. As needed, the incumbent writes pipeline computer programs to interface bioinformatics software and contributes to publications in peer reviewed scientific journals.
