Biological Technician – USDA Forest Service, Siuslaw National Forest (Corvallis, OR)

The incumbent will conduct lichen surveys and collect lichen samples to assess air quality in 11 Wilderness Areas of Washington and Oregon. Specific duties include permanent plot re-location (with aerial photo, map, compass, and GPS), performing FIA-FHM style lichen community surveys, making forest measurements (tree coring, tree diameter, etc), and vascular plant identification. Competitive applicants will have basic field botany skills for Oregon and Washington forests including familiarity with shrub and tree species and indicator non-woody plants; be comfortable working and living outdoors; be proficient in cross-country navigation by compass, map and aerial photos; and will have completed basic coursework or provide evidence of field experience in identifying epiphytic macrolichens of the Pacific Northwest.
