Boys Outdoor Leadership Development (BOLD) Mountain School is seeking a talented Director of Operations to join our team!
The Director of Operations will manage the delivery of all summer and school year programs of the Metrocenter YMCA’s BOLD Mountain School in Seattle, WA. You will be part of the outdoor leadership team of professional staff at the Metrocenter YMCA and will work closely with our sister program Girls Outdoor Leadership Development (GOLD).
The primary duties will include:
• Staff and volunteer leadership: lead, mentor and inspire a seasonal staff of 40 staff and volunteers. Supervise 3-5 seasonal course directors and 1-2 full time AmeriCorps volunteers. Maintain a cultural and linguistic diversity in our staff and volunteers that reflects the demographics of the students we serve.
• Staff Training and Hiring: Hire seasonal staff. Recruit volunteers. Organize and lead staff trainings.
• Program and Administrative Management: Administer and manage logistics involved in delivering our summer expeditions (65% of program days) and after school trips (35% of PDs).
• Deal with stressful situations and emergencies with grace. Anticipate future needs and problem solve. Learn kung fu.
• Recruit, train and mentor 8-12 seasonal apprentices and 2-4 emerging professionals for the multi-year BOLD Fellowships.
• Work with partnership programs to expand the fellowship opportunities.
• Recruitment and Outreach: help recruit students for summer programs and public and private schools for custom outdoor education programs during the academic year.
• Risk Management: Train and mentor staff in judgment and risk management. Clearly communicate RM expectations and systems to staff. Update RM systems as needed. Deal with crisis.
• Networking and Relationship Building: Utilize the magic of human relationships to build partnerships, recruit staff and volunteers, sell trips and prosper.
What we’re looking for:
• A relationship focused leader who can build strong rapport and a positive culture with staff, volunteers, students, and families while at the same time being detail-oriented and task-driven.
• Great with people (strong team player), budgets, spreadsheets, maps, time tables, filing cabinets, throwing stars and cooking.
• Experience working with diverse populations. People of color and multi-lingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply.
• Ability to mentor staff in backpacking, and/or rock climbing and mountain skills.
• Able to clearly communicate needs and expectations and hold staff and volunteers to a high standard of program delivery. A stickler for details and follow through.
• Possess strong organizational skills, self-awareness, flexibility and a good sense of humor.
Qualifications:
• Three or more years experience working with youth. Diverse populations preferred.
• Proven leadership and detail management experience.
• Current CPR and First Aid. Wilderness First Responder or WEMT required in first 3 months.
• Excellent facilitation skills appropriate for working with youth and adults.

Starting Salary range: DOE, range is $40,000-$42,500 annual salary plus paid time off, medical, dental, retirement, gym/yoga membership and wellness benefits.
