The Shorelands and Environmental Assistance (SEA) program helps communities manage shorelands and wetlands. Our primary focus is on state and local responsibilities for administering Washington state and federally-delegated laws. This position serves as a section expert in landscape ecology providing scientific expertise to state and local governments, tribes, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on integrating and using watershed assessment information. The position participates on a technical team that provides technical assistance in applying landscape characterization information for land use decision-making and developing recommended solutions to watershed impairments. Other duties include, but are not limited to:
- Performing proper interpretation, application and implementation of the Puget Sound Characterization results with local governments. These include assessments for importance and impairments for water flow, water quality, nearshore and freshwater fish and terrestrial wildlife.
- Assisting local governments and others in applying characterization data for land use planning, stormwater management and watershed restoration projects. Applies the characterization assessment models to specific watersheds and develops watershed-based plans in response to requests by agencies, local governments, non-governmental organizations, and tribes.
- Acting as project coordinator for watershed technical team. Coordinates technical team activities, convenes and facilitates meetings and helps select projects.
- Drafting technical reports and compiles comments from team members.
- Participating in an update of assessment models based on emerging research and monitoring results from the application of the assessment results.
- Developing messaging and web-based presentation of results and characterization data. Includes investigating an interactive format to allow either online application of data or additional analysis.
There is a need of more and more such environment protective organisations through out the world.
